Hedda Wells - Chair
I have been a parent at Eastergate School for a total of 11 years and after my youngest moved to Secondary School in 2015, I joined the Governing Body in September 2015. I am at school at least once a week – and have been for the last 6 year – listening to readers or taking children outside to work in the vegetable plot.
I am involved in running a Toddler Group and Sunday School at the local church and would like to promote Eastergate School in the community.
I enjoy outdoor activities, making music, a good book and baking.
Father Martin Powell - Vice Chair
I am Rector of the parish of Aldingbourne, Barnham and Eastergate, and as such am a Foundation Governor of Eastergate School. I have been a priest for nearly 17 years and see my work in all our local schools as an important part of my ministry. I regularly come into the school to lead collective worship and reflection times with the children, something which I really enjoy. In September 2016 I took the role of Chair of Governors at Eastergate.
I am married to Carys and have two daughters Katie and Lyra. You will most often see me flying around the parish on my bike. When not doing that I enjoy more cycling, running, cooking, brewing beer and walking.
I have lived in the six villages area for the majority of my life and attended Eastergate School as a child, alongside my brothers and sisters. My daughter, Jasmine, is currently in Midnight Blue class and I am married to Daniel. I became a Co-opted Governor in October 2016 as I wanted to give something back to the school and community where I live. My background is in marketing and as such I will be utilising my skills to publicise all of the wonderful initiatives that the children and staff at Eastergate are involved in.

I live locally and am married to Katy with two daughters; our eldest daughter joined Eastergate at the same time I joined the governing body in September 2016 and we love listening to the songs she sings at home that she learnt at school. I have been a secondary science teacher since 2009, and teach locally at a successful secondary school. Prior to working in education I spent a number of years working in overseas development.
As a family we regularly attend St. Pancras Church in Chichester, enjoy walks in the woods and South Downs and growing our own vegetables.
I was elected as the staff governor in July 2016 and have been a teacher at Eastergate since July 2015. I have been teaching since 2009, with the majority of my experience being in Year 3 and Year 6. I am currently teaching Apollo Class (Year 6), which I love doing, and I have just taken over the role of leading English.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking my puppy, going running, spinning and travelling. Before joining Eastergate, I enjoyed just under a year of teaching in Sydney, Australia - an unforgettable experience.
I was elected as a Parent Governor in October 2015 and am thoroughly enjoying this new role. I am currently allocated to the Finance committee. I am married to Amanda and we have three children, Matthew (Orange Class), James (Red Class) and Eliza (not yet at school!). I have worked in Local Government for 21 years in a variety of roles and I am a qualified food/health and safety officer and also a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. When I'm not spending time with my family, I enjoy seeing friends and training for triathlons and running events.
I have lived in the villages for the last 20 years and am married to Mark, we have 3 children who have all attended Eastergate; Hettie is currently in Purple Emperor class, with Barnaby and Poppy having progressed to senior school. I have worked as a Finance Assistant in a large primary school in Rustington for the last 7 years and I love my job. I have always been involved with life at Eastergate since my children started there and look forward to my new role as a governor.
I was elected as a Parent Governor in October 2015. My eldest daughter has just finished at Eastergate after attending for 7 years, and my youngest daughter Ella is in year 5, in Midnight Blue class.
Since having children I have worked part-time, so I have had the time to be involved with their school life. I have enjoyed helping with reading and school trips, and I am currently secretary on the school PTA ‘FoES’. I now work in marketing at Amberley Museum, which I thoroughly enjoy. As I live in walking distance to the school, I also like to be involved with things that are going on within the local community.
I have been a Governor now for 9 years and both of my children enjoyed the time they spent at Eastergate. In my professional life, I am an Architect who specialises in school design. This has naturally led me to providing help on the Premises Committee. I also serve on the Curriculum Committee and monitor the Art and Design subjects.
